Press Release: Services SETA in Beaufort West

Opening the Doors of Learning

Press Release: Services SETA in Beaufort West: Opening the Doors of Learning

The Services SETA’s Chairperson Mr Steven De Viries his CEO Mr Menzi Fakude visited the Beaufort West Municipality yesterday 13 April 2021, and attended an Extended Executive Mayoral Commitee Meeting.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss with the municipality the completion and the opening of the Skills Development Centre. The Services SETA and the municipality resolved that:

  1. The key challenges that resulted in the delay of the opening of Skills Centre will be immediately addressed by the municipality and where needed with the intervention by the Services SETA.
  2. The Services SETA will collaborate with other Setas as to ensure that the centre is optimally utilised for training and capacity building purposes as per demand by each industry.
  3. The municipality will be the custodian of the Skills Centre on behalf of the community and therefore, will put up a tender for the management of the centre.
  4. The municipality will investigate the formation of a Public Private Partnership that will draw in the necessary expertise and investment into the centre to ensure it doesn’t become a ‘’white elephant’.
  5. Beaufort West municipality will collaborate with various training institutions and NGOs to determine the type of projects and programs to be embarked upon as per the community needs.
  6. The municipality will facilitate a visit to Beaufort West by Services SETA Board members and the opening ceremony of the Centre.
  7. It is aimed that the Skills Centre will be opened between May and June this year (2021).
  8. The Acting Municipal Manager Mr Jackson Penxa and his management team, will meet with the Services SETA experts team on 23 April 2021 to  further dicuss the preparations for the opening of the Skills Centre.

The Executive Mayor Mr Noel Constable and the Mayoral Committee members, expressed their excitement that finally there is progress in this regard, and that the community will finally make use of the Centre especially the youth.

Beaufort West is quite fortunate as it is the only town in the Western Cape that has such a skills development facility, that has been built by the Services SETA.

The community is therefore urged to make use of the Centre and that it must protect it from vandalism as it is the community’s facilty.

Further communication with the public on the progress and the opening date of the Skillls Development Centre will be communicated. The Beaufort West Municipality is very excited about this project and looks forward to the opening of the Skills Development Centre.
