The Executive Mayor, Mr Noel Constable is delighted and happy to announce that Council on the 23 February 2021, approved the following economic development projects for Beaufort West and its surrounding areas:
These initiatives are made possible by the Public Private Partnerships forged with the private sector and government.
The aim of these economic initiatives is to eliminate poverty, reduce inequality, growing an inclusive local economy, promoting leadership and partnerships throughout society.
The logistic and freight economy in the town is at risk due criminal elements that enriches them by looting the trucks that are ideal and resting in our town. The Truck Stop is an initiative that will ensure the protection of the countries goods and ultimately the economy of this province and the country. Over and above everything else truck drivers will have comfort to overnight in the truck stop facility because the safety of their goods and most importantly their wellbeing.
For the first time in the history of the town, the municipality approved the launch and implementation of a Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) for our area, said the Mayor. The project is ground breaking, as it will provides first-time home ownership opportunities to South African residents earning between R3 501 and R22 000 per month, he explained.
Depending on their income level, a qualifying beneficiary will qualify for a subsidy between R 27 000,00 – R 121 626,00
This development will create the much needed jobs for our people and the economic opportunities that are accompanied by owning a property can never be discounted, and this is indeed economic transformation for our people, the Mayor said.
The municipality has approved development of a Private Hospital in the town. This project is long over -due and will ensure a reduction in the flow of patience to our public hospital.
The social and economic, spin offs associated with this development is the quality of health care that our people will receive from the current hospital, because of extension in doctor-patient consultation time in the public hospital. An improvement in the health care system of the municipality, will result in a healthy population which will increase the production capacity of our people, the Mayor said.
There are major economic development opportunities in the pipeline and these strategic initiatives will change Beaufort West for the better.
